Your Support Creates Opportunity

Volunteer Opportunities

Our small, dedicated staff works year-round to maintain our 56+ acres of gardens, forest, wetlands, and welcoming outdoor gathering spaces. Volunteers are essential partners in our ongoing land management projects. We can't do it without you!

Volunteerism is central to our mission. We offer meaningful opportunities for community members and corporate partners to support educational programming through garden workdays, special events, habitat restoration, and youth learning activities. These volunteer experiences directly enhance our ability to provide high-quality environmental education while fostering community investment in the next generation of environmental stewards.

We welcome:

  • Volunteers who can help on a regular basis.

  • One-time volunteers.

  • Civic organizations and groups looking for day of service opportunities.

  • Scouting groups. For individual Eagle Scout projects, please contact us with specifics.

Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult during the entirety of their volunteering time.

Before arriving for your volunteering time, please review our guidelines for volunteers here.

Weekly Volunteering:

We offer year-round, twice-weekly opportunities (listed below) for community members to make a difference in the gardens while learning about organic and sustainable gardening techniques from our knowledgeable staff.  The weekly volunteer hours are generally rain or shine, unless stated otherwise on our social media platforms. The location for the volunteer activities varies each week. For specifics, check the front door of our office building (with the coneflowers mural on it) when you arrive or follow us on Instagram or Facebook, where details about the tasks are posted each week.

Weekly volunteer hours:

Thursdays 3:00pm–6:00pm (or sunset, whichever comes first)
Saturdays 9:00am–12:00pm

Thank you for your interest in volunteering!

In Kind Donations

If you have garden items, seeds, or plants you're interested in donating to Downtown Greens, please contact us by email first. We cannot accept all garden implements, especially used or damaged items, because they can carry invisible-to-the-eye plant diseases and pests. As you can imagine, we need to avoid bringing these into our garden! However, we can almost always accept used small nursery pots and trays. For more information on in kind donations, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.
