We are keeping the gardens open to the public from sunrise to sunset like we have for 25 years now. We urge everyone, however, to follow current health guidelines when making decisions about using the space.
A note about our programs: Volunteer Garden Hours: We are holding both Thursday and Saturday volunteer hours. For the safety of everyone who visits our garden, we ask that all volunteers wear a mask while working with us. We also ask that volunteers bring their own gardening gloves if they have the resources to do so. Garden Sprouts: We hope to resume Garden Sprouts in Fall 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. We will have veggies growing and ready to discover for our preschool gardeners when they return. Youth Farm Program and Youth Garden Club: Our Youth Farm Program and Youth Garden Club are cancelled for the Summer/Fall 2021 season. In the meantime, our staff is maintaining the education gardens and distributing the food for free to those in need. Free Food Program: We will offer our weekly Free Farm Stand for a second year, beginning June 2021. Every Thursday at 5:30pm in our Upper Garden, food is provided fresh from our education gardens, as well as from local partner organizations. Food is available on a first come, first serve basis. Our Take What You Need garden plot is also available for community members to harvest 24/7. Find it next to the bus stop on Princess Anne in our Upper Garden. Coming soon: a round-the-clock Free Fridge and Pantry will be available in our Upper Garden for fresh food provided by local partners and our own garden. Check this page, or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates. Workshops and Events: Workshops and events are being held according to current health guidelines. Many are outside or provide options to attend remotely. Please visit our Facebook page or subscribe to our monthly newsletter for more information on upcoming events. Office Hours: Office Hours are held Thursdays from noon-2:30pm. If you need to get in touch you can email us at downtowngreens@gmail.com or leave us a message at 540-371-7315 and we will return your call as soon as we are able. We miss all of our young friends, and we are hard at work planting seeds and getting ready for their return! If you are well, we encourage you to get outside in the sunshine and fresh air, not only for physical health reasons but also for your emotional and mental well-being. Brighter days are ahead!
