A free, multi-layered after-school program designed for local children with at least 75% of the participants being from Hazel Hill Apartments, the neighboring low-income housing development.
The Youth Farm Program consists of three fundamental parts: Weekly Meetings: Non-traditional learning/play environment that includes gardening (weeding, watering, planting, harvesting), nature craft, and environmental literacy. Monthly Community Dinners: Hosted by the club participants, once a month the youth will work with a guest chef to create a meal with produce from their garden. The meal will be prepared in the DTG community kitchen in the basement of our headquarters building during the weekly club meeting. Monthly Youth-Led Farmer’s Market Stand: Monthly field trip to the Downtown Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market to sell extra produce from the Youth Farm Program plot. |
