Gardening
- Downtown Greens makes every effort to act as a steward
of the land in our care. We maintain organic gardens
and employ practices such as composting. If you are
interested in gardening with us, come by Thursdays 3-6pm
or Saturdays 9-12 noon. |
| Native
Woodland - We are trying to reestablish native plants
in our woodlands. If you have any expertise or interest
in this field, contact us. |

Greenshed - The first phase of our sustainable architecture demonstration is complete. The
Greenshed is a post and beam building with straw bale
walls and a living or vegetated roof. We completed
this work with the help of a grant from the Virginia
Department of Conservation and Recreation. More earth
building is in the works.

Past
Projects
| Trellis
- With the help of Rappahanock Rotary-Fredericksburg
we enhanced a neighborhood path through Downtown Greens
with a trellis. |

Parking
Lot - In
1998 we resurfaced an existing parking lot near the
garden using eco-pavers. These environmentally-friendly
pavers allow the ground to retain rainwater, reducing
runoff. |
|
Water
Fountain - With
the help of local boyscouts we installed a public
drinking fountain near the Old Walker Grant playground.
