Fork it Over Festival

Fredericksburg, Va. – Downtown Greens, Fredericksburg’s local community greenspace, will host their annual Fork It Over Festival On May 20 from 2-6 p.m.

The festival will be held in the Upper Gardens by the organization’s headquarters at the intersection of Charles and Dixon Street. This will allow community members to celebrate the arrival of spring while fundraising for Downtown Green’s and their new initiative, the Youth Farm Program.

The festival is open to all community members and will feature community favorites, such as a plant sale, silent auction, live music, wading pool for the kids and a smoothie bike. New this year will be a beer garden featuring Spencer Devon Brewing.

The Youth Farm Program is a multi-layered after-school program that is free for the children who attend. The target audience for this particular program is local third, fourth and fifth graders and the focus will be on recruiting and retaining children from the neighboring Hazel Hill Apartments.

The club will have up to 12 participants and will consist of weekly meetings, community dinners and a farmer’s market stand, where the children sell the produce they grow at the garden at the Fredericksburg Farmer’s Market.

Downtown Greens promotes environmental care by preserving two urban garden areas, using sustainable gardening methods, teaching children through a weekly Garden Club, the Youth Farm Program and raising bees with the Urban Bees program.
