We are keeping the gardens open to the public from sunrise to sunset like we have for 25 years now. We urge everyone, however, to follow current health guidelines when making decisions about social distancing and sheltering-in-place.
A note about our programs: Volunteer Garden Hours: Although we have cancelled our Thursday staffed Garden Hours for the season, we are still holding drop-in Garden Hours on Saturdays from 9am-noon. For the safety of everyone who visits our garden, we ask that all volunteers wear a mask while working with us. We also ask that volunteers bring their own gardening gloves if they have the resources to do so. Garden Sprouts: Because of the school closures we are unable to garden with our youngest friends for the 2020-2021 school year. We will have veggies growing for them to discover when they return and we’ll look forward to getting back into the dirt with our preschool gardeners. Youth Farm Program and Youth Garden Club: We will continue to update you as we know whether the pandemic will allow us to restart our on-site programs this Spring. In the meantime our staff is maintaining the education gardens and distributing the food for free to those in need. Office Hours: Office Hours are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon-2:30pm. If you need to get in touch you can email us at downtowngreens@gmail.com or leave us a message at 540-371-7315 and we will return your call as soon as we are able. We miss all of our young friends, and we are hard at work planting seeds and getting ready for their return! If you are well, we encourage you to get outside in the sunshine and fresh air, not only for physical health reasons but also for your emotional and mental well-being. Together we can get through this. Thank you, The Staff and Board of Directors at Downtown Greens |
