As our community grapples with extraordinary times, we want to share with you – our most loyal supporters – an update on the current status of Downtown Greens amid the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic.
Though this is a fluid situation, for the moment we are keeping the gardens open to the public from sunrise to sunset like we have for 25 years now. We urge everyone, however, to follow current health guidelines when making decisions about social distancing and sheltering-in-place.
A note about our programs:
Volunteer Garden Hours:
For the safety of our volunteers, we will not be holding Garden Hours until further notice.
Because of the school closures we are unable to garden with our youngest friends for the rest of the school year. We will have veggies growing for them to discover when they return in August and we’ll look forward to getting back into the dirt with our preschool gardeners.
Youth Farm Program and Youth Garden Club:
Originally slated to begin in April, we are postponing the start of these programs. We will continue to update you as we know more. In the meantime our staff is planting the gardens and creating gardening videos to guide new gardeners of all ages in their quest to grow their own food.
Office Hours have been suspended at least until the end of April. If you need to get in touch you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or leave us a message at 540-371-7315 and we will return your call as soon as we are able.
We miss all of our young friends, and we are hard at work planting seeds and getting ready for their return! If you are well, we encourage you to get outside in the sunshine and fresh air, not only for physical health reasons but also for your emotional and mental well-being. Together we can get through this.
